Gerry Merrick provides a report from the Ballisodare Fishery – 22nd July 2026 Fishery Closed for the past two weeks The last two weeks at Ballisodare Fishery have been enormously stressful for salmon due to extremely high water temperatures in both the river and the estuary, generally exceeding 23 deg.C, with readings over 25.0 recorded on occasion. The fishery remains closed due to continued high water temperatures. While continuous electronic sonde water-quality monitoring continues to show healthy dissolved oxygen levels throughout the river, water temperatures remain above safe levels for angling. To minimise stress on migrating salmon and protect the long-term health of the fishery, the closure will remain in place until conditions improve. River conditions are being assessed daily, and the fishery will reopen as so
